I am a search funder looking for opportunities in food & beverage industries. I have registered ACG earlier this month, and am thinking about whether I should go to ACG Intergrowth Conference this year at Florida. I really appreciate if anyone who has attended the conference would like to share his/her experience and offer some suggestions on how to make the best of it. Thanks!

Save your money if you are a search fund unless you have lots of prior connections there. I have been going to Intergrowth for several years for our fund. $2,000 for the conference plus hotel and travel makes it the most expensive conference we attend by far. It is HUGE with over 2,000 people. You will not "run into " anyone randomly in my experience and you have to work hard to pre-schedule meetings with your targets or your odds of connecting with someone that is a good fit is slim. Its tends to be much larger and international focused. In fact many people "attend", don't officially register/pay and just setup meetings in a hotel room or in the lobby coffee shop. - they have been cracking down on this at least in San Diego last year. That said per the above comments I agree and highly recommend your local and regional ACG chapter events: ACG Atlanta, ACG Great Lakes are examples of regional events with high ROI. Much better focus for a lower middle market fund. AMAA and SBIA are events we also get some value out of relative to cost to attend.

While I haven’t gone to Intergrowth, ACG has been one of the best networking groups I’ve used in my career. Search funds are a different focus than ACG, so you may be explaining your model to a bunch of class private equity and service providers. One nice thing about ACG is that it is a networking group and almost everyone is open to meeting new people. Good luck
