Can anyone recommend a franchise lawyer? We are looking at an FDD in the health and wellness space and looking for legal guidance to help us understand what is / is not market in the FDD we are reviewing.

Thanks, ^redacted‌ - Lots of lawyers; few worthwhile. (I’ve started two franchise systems, and coached numerous buyers to avoid or complete deals with lots of franchisors, so I have some experience in the field.) Among the best: Amy Cheng https://www.chengcohen.com/who-we-are/amy-cheng/ Barry Kurtz https://www.lewitthackman.com/attorney/barry-kurtz/
They might be able to refer you to someone else on the basis of your location, franchise, needs, etc.

Re: lawyer, I recommend asking other franchisors whom they have used. IDK any lawyers I could recommend who specialize in franchises, but if the lawyer has a proven track record with that specific franchise, that's a good sign.

Re: figuring out what are market terms on the FDD, 2 other ideas.

1) talk to some folks who have done multiple franchises (I have a friend who would be good, DM if you want an intro).

2) Check out wdfi.org. The state of Wisconsin requires all franchises to list their FDD on that site. Cross reference your terms with established franchises (Like McDonalds) or hot new ones (ScentHound, Orange Theory), or just comparable franchises in the same industry.
