I copy the title of the NYT’s article and then paste it into my browser. Usually among the results is a direct link to the NYT (not forcing payment) or links to other publishers of the identical article, some of which don’t try to shove you into paying to peek. (The same technique also works on other give-me-your-money publishers, so my followers don’t have to pay to peek.)

Sometimes the titling slightly differs. I share the version that comes closest to or is better than the original article.

(In the case of the NYT, they are NOT the best place for seeing a full picture; occasionally, other venues offer a more balanced and comprehensive coverage.)
