Has anyone hired a fractional CFO? Would love to connect to hear about your experience.


Further clarification - I'm looking to chat with someone (an owner or someone else in the C-suite) who has hired a fractional CFO. I've already identified the person we plan to hire. I'm looking for best practices around integrating them into my current leadership team.

Hi Shaun, I am unsure of the term 'fractional' but if you mean a part-time or - on-call CFO I have used this kind of service for some years. In Australia I worked closely with the founder of The CFO Centre (a growth strategy of the similar business in the UK). I have used CFO Centre CFOs to provide the high end mgt and strategic accounting and financial support in businesses I've been a Director of - esp Mid-tier where we couldnt afford a full time CFO, Ideally you will have in-house bookkeeping/basic accounting function to enable the CFO to focus on the big picture stuff.

Thoruoughly recommend this approach until the business is of a size to bring one on-board full time. Also allows you to try out a few people to expereince different styles and approaches, or buy in specific skill expertise as and when needed

We worked with 2-3 Fractional CFO at Imprint and struggled, and then build our own Fractional CFO service to serve our SMB book of business at our agency.

Our Fractional CFO team we now have is built of Wharton graduates, ex-Blackstone employees with experience taking companies public, and CFO experience helping build companies to $100 million run rate. When we find a lack of quality service, we try to create a solution to not only help our business, but our book of businesses and clients. There is a shortage of quality!
