3 - Buying a Manufacturer for Just the Value of Assets
Today's episode is with Tyler Deike.
Tyler acquired a small manufacturing business from a retiring owner.
That owner was 80 years old. Tyler was about 30 at the time.
This was a couple years ago, and the owner was running the business kind of on handshakes and scraps of paper.
So it wasn't exactly a super tight ship that Tyler was considering acquiring.
What I really like about this story is that because of the way the business was run, there was just no way that Tyler was going to be able to do exhaustive due diligence and eliminate all risk and get all of his questions answered.
At some point, he just needed to take a leap of faith, which is what he did.
I find in my own life that I often try to eliminate all risk when making a business decision, and that's just not realistic.
And I think it slows me down and I get in my own way there.
So I think there's definitely something to be learned from the philosophical approach that Tyler took to this deal.
So without further ado, here is Tyler Deike's story.
