Acquisition Closed: Highland Roofing Company

Dear Search Fund Community,

My spouse, Jeanette, and I acquired Highland Roofing Company based in Wilmington, North Carolina on Friday, December 10th. Ever since we left our jobs and first posted on Searchfunder in early 2021, the Searchfunder community has provided continuous support. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us on our journey.

- Investors. Thank you to our investors (most of whom came through Searchfunder) that participated in the transaction. Your unwavering support and commitment was the greatest surprise of the entire process. Closing was unexpectedly delayed for ~2 months, and every one of you remained committed to the transaction. You have our deepest gratitude.

- Bruce Marks at First Bank of the Lake. A special shout out and thanks to Bruce Marks at First Bank of the Lake. Other lenders struggled with financing a large loan in the construction industry, but Bruce shared our vision for Highland Roofing. Bruce guided and supported us through the entire funding process and got our deal funded. Please reference my full review and make Bruce your first call.

- Christal Contini and Chris Hawley at McDonald Hopkins. Christal and Chris provided our legal due diligence. We chose to work with Christal (the Chair of the M&A practice) because we felt, first, that she was a top-rate M&A professional, and second, we felt that she understood how to tailor her approach to smaller acquisitions. Christal and Chris took full ownership of due diligence and “drove” the process.

- Sylvie Gadant and David Zawitkowski at Citrin Cooperman. David and Sylvie spearheaded our quality of earnings review and financial due diligence. They provided a full suite of services, covering financial due diligence, quality of earnings review, income tax review, and SALT review.

- Searchfunder.com. When we began our journey, we had no idea Searchfunder existed. I can confidently say that Searchfunder probably shaved at least 6 months off the process by compressing the time frame needed to learn and meet all the required services providers, investors, and bankers into 1-2 months. We greatly appreciate the support of the community and the Searchfunder.com team.
