Advice you wish you knew prior to the search

For all my fellow searchers out there, what are some pieces of advice that you wish you knew prior to day one of your search? Specifically around getting things settled/sorted in order to hit the ground running from the very beginning.

Hi, ^redacted‌: I think I could fill a book and perhaps 2 or 3 on this question alone. In fact, we just finished Nuts & Bolts -- a 6 month class -- to help searchers lay the groundwork you are talking about and to avoid some of the pitfalls that I've heard of.
