Selective Searcher-In-Residence Opportunity with Thesis Capital
Thesis Capital is an independent sponsor focused on acquiring lower-middle-market businesses in the U.S., and we’re currently looking to partner with a small number of operators who want to acquire and run a company.
Over the past several years we’ve built a model designed for professionals who want to pursue an acquisition but aren’t in a position to quit their job and launch a traditional search full-time. Our approach lowers the barrier to entry by providing infrastructure, deal flow, transaction support, and capital relationships so searchers can focus on what they do best, evaluating opportunities and ultimately operating a business.
Founded in 2017, Thesis is led by a team with backgrounds in consulting, private equity, venture capital, and M&A advisory. We’ve collectively worked on more than $10B in transactions and have built a platform that supports entrepreneurs through the full acquisition lifecycle; from sourcing and underwriting to closing and operating the business post-acquisition.
Unlike traditional search funds that typically require leaving your role to raise a search fund, or self-funded searches that require absorbing all the costs and risks personally, our model allows professionals to begin pursuing acquisitions while maintaining their careers. We limit the number of people we partner with each year so we can be deeply involved in each search.
What Thesis provides
• Deal flow and sourcing infrastructure – Access to our sourcing systems, built and refined over the past eight years, along with internal staff focused on generating opportunities.
• Full transaction support – Dedicated M&A professionals support the process from initial outreach through underwriting, negotiation, diligence, financing, closing, and post-close governance.
• Capital relationships – Access to our network of lenders, family offices, and investors, along with pre-qualification of deals during the LOI stage.
• Professional services network – Trusted accounting, legal, diligence, and operational partners that support transactions and post-acquisition growth.
• Operational bench – A network of experienced operators and investors who help troubleshoot growth and operational challenges once the business is acquired.
Searchers in the program work directly with our VP of Search, who has personally completed and operated multiple SBA-backed acquisitions, along with the broader Thesis transaction and sourcing team.
The goal is simple: help strong operators become owner-operators of great businesses, while reducing the cost, time, and risk typically associated with search.
What we’re looking for
We partner with a limited number of mid-career professionals who have real operating experience and want to run a business long term.
Typical candidates have:
• Leadership experience with P&L responsibility
• A background in operations, consulting, or business leadership
• Great credit and strong six-figure personal liquidity
• A strong entrepreneurial drive and desire to become an owner-operator
Finance experience is helpful but not required, we care much more about operators who can grow and lead a business.
Most opportunities pursued through the program are lower-middle-market acquisitions, typically in the ~$8M–$20M enterprise value range.
If you’re exploring different paths into search( traditional search funds, self-funded search, or independent sponsor models) and want to learn more about this approach, feel free to reach out.
We’re currently speaking with candidates for our next cohort of searchers. Please send a resume and your motivation to redacted
