Curious about your experiences transitioning into search from a tech background. I've spoken to some tech professionals who look to acquire within the IT space, but I also see them completely pivot into different industries. Trying to get some ideas and different perspectives as I think through different industries to focus my search on. Thanks!

^redacted‌ glad to see I'm not the only former Product Manager in the searchfunder community lol. I pivoted into ETA about 5 years ago and it has been non stop learning. Thankfully, I've been able to use my PM skills to acquire, optimize and sell companies.

There is so much room for disruption with tech/AI and the buy then build playbook which is what gets me excited because I have been experimenting a ton lately with AI agents and automation to optimize the SMBs I'm advising.

Happy to chat more and maybe even start a virtual event or meeting to bring more minds together to chat about how we've been tackling each stage of what seems like an traditionally non techie M&A process with better technology and products. Let me know.

^redacted‌ Software developer here, and yes.

I think we tend to make decent searchers (talking my own book of course). But I do think that software promotes systems-level thinking. In addition, it definitely provides you with the right instincts to go against a bad status quo.

Tech operators tend to have blindspots when it comes to the realities of the physical and more blue collar world. It's quite a different thing to search for a fairly typical software company (i.e. what I did) vs. go into another market altogether. I think our skills make us formidable in both, but in the second case you will need an added dose of humility.
