Becoming CEO is the ultimate goal?

Few months after I started my self-funded search and advance on talks with multiple business owners, I noticed that some business owners are not looking for an exit, but an alternative to stop operating their business. This has led to some conversations ending in a job offer as CEO of the business. Without a commitment to investors I'm questioning myself to accept or not one of this offers. Have you faced an offer to become CEO? How did you manage the negotiation? Did you negotiated equity of the company?
