I did it. I would not recommend it unless you are buying something massive that comes with scale / processes. It's been a great way to lose money. I would avoid Florida like the plague unless its like a really rich part (Palm Beach). Honestly, you would be much better off raising $200K and launching greenfield and doing the pools yourself for 6 months. You can get to a nice business with a little effort, but the sellers in this industry are very sketchy & their customers "text my pool guy Tom" when something goes wrong. When you take over, they will not think "I trust Elliott" but "man this never would have broken if Tom was taking care of my pool" even when its the exact same employees & a part that's two years past its useful life. On average, employee quality / motivation is also pretty low given how low the pay is relative to HVAC or other home services industries. We have some great employees, but man we have fired some awful ones in there too...
