Research on investor returns in traditional search funds is well established, but the outcomes for the entrepreneurs who actually lead these businesses across the broader ETA landscape are far less understood. In collaboration with A.J. Wasserstein at Yale SOM, we’re collecting input from exited ETA CEOs across ETA pathways, including holding companies, traditional, self-funded, and incubated searches to better understand CEO compensation, equity outcomes, and the personal trade-offs that come with the journey. For this research, we define an “exit” as the first liquidity event when initial investors receive liquidity and predominantly exit the cap table. We’re gathering anonymous, aggregate data through a short (~10-minute) survey. Every question is optional, but the more you can share, the more useful the insights will be for future searchers, investors, and boards. If you’re an exited ETA CEO, I’d encourage you to participate, especially if AJ’s prior work has been useful to you at any point. Our goal is to bring data, not anecdotes, to an important conversation and help the community build a clearer picture of CEO outcomes. The survey closes March 31, ###-###-#### :59 PM ET).
