Hi everyone -

Starting out a self-fund search based out of Houston, TX.

I am trying to lay the groundwork for an organic deal flow funnel. Any tips on how to get started e.g., databases to solicit business contact information, etc.?

I've leveraged Data Axle for free through my public library membership. It's a database of company listings. Searchfunder has a deal with them to provide a base level of info. You can find more on the terms by searching for past post on the topic.

I know others have explored Zoominfo and a few other databases.

Best of luck on your search!

There is no substitute for good networking. Start by working out where to find the right types of companies, or what specific industries you want. Build a solid and engaging presence on LinkedIn. Think about how to generate content that engages your audience. Then plan to do it for a while. We didn't get much organic deal flow until we had been doing it for a couple of years, but it is building all the time, and we get excellent flow now. Good luck!
