Curious to learn about the landscape of software used among wholesalers, distributors, food services, etc. especially if there's a component of connecting with small and local farms/producers. Thank you!

Few companies pop out. For food services/vending 365 markets. For restaurant/supply chain Restaurant Cheetah though they do their own "distro" as well. Sysco, PFG, KeHe, all have own internal client facing software and my understanding is custom built internal ops as well. Good Eggs - grocery - lot of internal tech. Grub Market was connecting w/ farms at one point but more consumer vs b2b. The 10 min delivery guys that blew 1BN - all custom as well.
In general, food industry is huge laggard in tech adoption and very consolidated. Small farms usually also not very tech forward (w/ software at least - equip different story). Most big distro's pretend to care about local but it's all about velocity/volume.

Thanks for the tag ^redacted‌. As Claude mentioned, the food industry tends to be slow in adopting new technology. However, a few emerging independent software companies are making strides in this area. One notable example is Agtools (https://www.agtechtools.com/), which has earned the trust of several respected customers with its innovative product. Agtools stands out by providing supply chain market data and analytics specifically tailored to farmers and other industry participants.
