Does anyone have experience searching / acquiring in California?

I’m leaning toward a geographically-focused self-funded search in Southern California, but I've heard concerns about the state's regulatory environment, wages, taxes, etc.

Would love to hear some specific experiences – the good, the bad and the ugly!

From the perspective of investors and lenders the California market is not typically the place they want to be. I know of other searchers that have gotten deals under LOI and then struggled to find a financing partner because having a California-based business was as non-starter for some folks. That isn't to say the market is closed to investment, it's just a matter of finding the right partners to work with on whatever deal you find.

Hi Ethan. California in general has a lot of activity when it come to M&A.

I was recently connected with ^redacted‌ who runs a peer group with searchers in SoCal. Wanted to share as it may be helpful for you to connect with other searcher. Possibly you can join and network.
