Does anyone have experience with carving one flagship location into new multiple franchised territories?

I’m looking for someone who has taken a standalone business that is one flagship location that has covered a wide metropolitan area, and carved each territory into a franchised location and sold each location as an operating business ( split up customers, employees, equipment, etc.)
