Does anyone target GP stakes in RIAs, small PE/VC funds or similar?

I'm researching companies that acquire stakes in the GPs of financial partnerships like investment advisors, small hedge funds, PE funds, credit funds, etc. Has anyone here explored these opportunities?

There are many RIA roll-ups, which is probably your best place to start. I've never worked in the space directly, though I know someone on the exec team at Alpine Investors' roll-up, Aspen. Shore recently launched a platform as well. Happy to talk about that model with you to the extent that I know it.

There are other ways of creative financing that might give you a stake in those businesses. I'm even less familiar with those but I can share the concepts. For my money though, I don't think it works to invest in these unless you are doing a roll-up. The information asymmetry and sophistication of your counterparties create a big risk for a searcher without deep industry experience or an intention to build mutually beneficial shared services.
