Don't buy a fabrications business 3hr from where you live...

I have received advice not to buy a company 3hrs drive away from where I live. I did agree with their arguments of why. However, over the past three months, I have been challenging that advice. I think it is possible to be successful in running a fabrication business remotely and being at the office/facility a few days per week.

ASK: I'd value speaking with anyone who has first-hand experience in this scenario. Or if anyone can point me towards a post/ content that speaks to these questions from a first-hand experience.

Thanks

I cut it to two hours max! Unless the target is large / profitable enough to put an upper management / GM in place, you need to be at the office almost everyday. You face different issues coming up daily from dawn till dusk, and manufacturing day-to-day activities, from bottom to top, can not be run remotely except some support functions.

Thanks for the response ^redacted‌. I agree one would need the structure you commented on first to make it work. Have you see a real world scenario where an owner operated from a distance, with the GM in place, company having healthy profitability?
