It’s a good time to be a buyer in the e-commerce sector if you have:
- Capital (raising debt and equity is difficult for e-com rollups at the moment)
- Expertise in the sector / product category you are targeting
- Expertise in growing DTC/CPG/retail businesses
- Sufficient management resource to manage each of the acquired businesses, or a plan for keeping the founders involved as part of the business post-closing
- An advantage that you will use to accelerate the growth of each brand post-acquisition
The winners in this space tend not to be large portfolios of disparate brands, but *individual brands themselves* that break out and dwarf the rest of the portfolio

A lot of the larger roll-ups like SellerX or Berlin Brands Group seem to have reduced their M&A teams in 2024, this might be a sign or an opportunity - however you look at it
