Has anyone had a good experience with a firm or contractor to lead a website migration from BigCommerce (or Shopify) to Wordpress? I've received lots of inbound sales emails from offshore firms trying to win the project, but it's hard to gauge how good they are. Personal recommendations would be great! Thanks all.

Thanks all for the great comments! I think it might surprise some folks how popular Woo Commerce is - it powers around 40% of global e-commerce sites compared to Shopify's 10%. https://www.cloudways.com/blog/top-ecommerce-platforms/. Although in US that number is much closer. For full context I currently own different stores on both Shopify and Big Commerce and both platforms are super easy and great out of the box solutions for most. The reason I want to migrate to Woo Commerce (Wordpress) is because of cost and also flexibility. Re costs, At the enterprise level the monthly fees on Big Commerce including apps is over $1,500. This is basically free on Woo Commerce once it's built out (although for sure there will be some expenses to maintain the site). So if I can invest a few thousand dollars on a migration it's probably a good return. Re flexibility, Big Commerce is pretty rigid and there are many applications on Woo Commerce - particularly around product customizations and web to print - that just aren't readily available on Big Commerce. It's a tough decision for sure! It would be very easy to stay on Big Commerce and keep paying those hefty fees knowing that it just works.

Thanks again for all the great comments and feedback!

Hey Hudson- in general I'd second what Yilun said. I used to own an agency that did both Shopify and Wordpress. We used wordpress only for "normal" business websites. For ecommerce projects we always went for shopify. Also for my 2 ecom business we were running on shopify since 2014 and never regretted it. But I'm sure you have your reason.

I don't have the agency anymore, but I do have a recommendation: Its Mapa from quaandry.com - She does great work and is really detail oriented. Her firm is in denmark but she offers her services worldwide and is fluent in english. You can tell her Sascha said hi 👍🏽 (also applies for everyone else that might read this comment and is looking for s.o. for shopify or wordpress.
