European Search Fund Formations Through 2020

After more than doubling the number of search funds formed in Europe from 2018 to 2019, 2020 continued this momentum and would wind up setting a new record for search funds formed in Europe during a calendar year. Although we hypothesized in our European report from last year that the 2020 search fund formations in Europe might have been slightly lower than 2019, that was not the case, and 2020 was able to slightly outpace 2019 with fifty European search funds formed in 2020 and forty-nine European search funds formed in###-###-#### As seen in the chart, there has been monumental growth in European search fund formations since 2010, as there were only two European search funds formed that year, compared to the fifty that were formed in###-###-#### As we are (hopefully) seeing the final stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are optimistic that the number of European search funds will continue to grow into the next decade, with a similar trajectory of this past decade.
To provide even more accurate data for future reports, we're making a general call out to the search fund community to help us with crowdsourcing data on search funds, especially for the end of 2020 and the first half###-###-#### Please check your search fund's information for accuracy and update it as needed.
