Brand new to the idea of search, and weighing it against other potential career choices. One key consideration is the likelihood of finding a deal in my passion industry - related to clean tech/sustainability/climate change. Does anyone have experience finding deals in this space, or are they generally more the VC/PE route? Thanks!

Hi anonymous. One piece of advice: don't focus too much on finding a deal in your passion industry. Instead, look for what is needed and in demand out there (what services or products, in which industries) and how your abilities and drive can add value for customers in those industries. If you're considering being an entrepreneur or a seracher, let that rational thinking guide your decisions about the industries and companies you focus on. Those are the ones that thrive and survive. I know it's not as sexy as " follow your passion", but if someone had given me that advice in my early 20's, it would've saved me 10+ years of going nowhere.

The average price per hour on maintenance and inspection services has dropped drastically over the past couple of years. When I looked, the margin compression convinced me to walk away. You have a ton of VC backed companies thinking they will get scale advantages.....which just doesn't pan out.
