Hello SF Community,

I was wondering what is your experience with fractional CFO's, and does anyone in the community have recommendations? We are looking to hire a CFO, and we're wondering is it better to bring them in house, or an alternative method.

Hi - so far you have gotten some good comments. I've been operating in both fractional and interim CFO roles for the last 18 years. I agree with ^redacted‌ that the model works if you are looking for someone to play a financial oversight and leadership role. Determining and implementing long-term strategy might be more suited to a full-time role in-house. Happy to explore possibilities if you would like to chat.

Can you provide any more about your business size, growth, etc.? If you're a small business just looking to close the books, evaluate product margin and pricing, and compare actuals to last year, that's one thing a fractional CFO can advise on. I've seen postings on Upwork, Graphite, and Catalant for these roles.

If you're looking at acquisitions, Finance strategy, debt vs. equity, you may need someone on hand who's dedicating time to your growth. Hope this helps.
