I'm looking at growth through acquiring direct competitors. My early impression is that working with an intermediary is a must.

Would love to hear from anyone with experience using this rollup tactic. One thread suggested recruiting someone retired from the industry. Any advice is appreciated!

It's a lot like your original search strategy. I would build a complete market map of all your direct competitors (and any adjacent companies you find interesting) and then just start reaching out and pitching. Get the ball rolling before you think about bringing on a corp dev consultant in your industry so you can really get a sense for market. Plus, ultimately any seller is going to want to get to know you personally.

Intermediaries can help source potential opportunities while you continue to operate and focus on your business. You can develop a good relationship with a broker, provide the criteria you are looking, and have companies delivered to you free of charge. If you need any help with this, please let me know!
