Has anyone here actually acquired a union commercial roofing business? I’m deep into evaluating one right now as a platform for a buy-and-build. Honestly the business checks a lot of boxes (strong revenue, solid customer base, good margins ) but the union piece is where I keep getting stuck. I’ve heard everything from “it’s just how commercial roofing works, don’t overthink it” to “run the other way.” So I’m trying to cut through the noise. If you’ve been through this, does being a union shop actually kill the consolidation thesis? And when you go to exit, are buyers avoiding, discounting you for it, or is it just priced in at this point? And if it’s not a deal killer. what should I actually be digging into during diligence? What separates a union situation you can work with from one that’s going to be a headache for years? Would really appreciate anyone willing to hop on a call or share their experience here. I know this is a niche one but figured if anyone’s seen it, it’s this group.
