Hi all, I’m relatively new to posting on Searchfunder (have mostly been a silent reader so far), but I’ve been actively working on a self-funded search over the past few months. I’m currently evaluating a potential acquisition in the electrical contracting space (GTA, Canada), and I’d love to connect with people who have direct experience in this industry. By way of background — I spent ~15 years on business side of things (strategy & transformation consulting at Big 4 + Industry). I’m now focused full-time on acquiring and operating a small-to-mid-sized business. While I’ve started building my own perspective, I’d love to learn from people who’ve actually been in the trenches — whether as: -Owners/operators of electrical contracting businesses -Individuals who’ve acquired or sold similar companies -Industry professionals (PMs, estimators, electricians, etc.) -Lenders/investors familiar with the space A few areas I’m trying to get smarter on: -What really drives profitability (beyond headline EBITDA) -Union vs non-union dynamics and how they impact flexibility -How to think about backlog, customer concentration, and revenue quality -Operational realities — bidding, scheduling, labor utilization, etc. -Common pitfalls (things that aren’t obvious during diligence) Happy to keep it informal — even a 15–20 min conversation would go a long way. If you’re open to sharing your perspective, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to comment or DM. Thanks in advance — I’ve already learned a lot from this community just by reading!
