Does anyone have a financial planner/professional they work closely with to help them manage the whole picture with ETA a part of their plan? Struggling to find someone who effectively helps me make strategic decisions as a self-employed, rental property owner, and pursuing ETA. Looking most for experiences and referrals from the client side.

I am not a financial planner, and am based in Canada. But as someone who has worked with searchers/acquisition entrepreneurs, I would recommend that the first thing searchers/acquisition entrepreneurs should do is to isolate their personal assets and income from the EtA process. That means at a minimum forming a corporation and running their search process through it (likely LLC in United States), get a domain for website, and always use that domain email for communication with sellers/lenders/brokers/etc. If you acquire a business, thats great. If not, you can dissolve the Corp/LLC and get out of the process. This is like getting a car insurance, you have it for a bad day but hope it is never used. I have seen some searchers get into issues that were completely avoidable with a proper liability strategy.

I'll echo what ^redacted‌ said. We used a financial planner for a while, and it was an expensive experiment. For 1% he didn't do anything more than we could have done ourselves. Our CPA has given us the best advice of all the professionals we work with, as well as introducing us to our business attorney who not only helped us set up our ETA vehicle, but is also helping us restructure our family LLCs and trusts.
