Four years, two dead deals, one close
One of our alumni, @redacted, closed last week on a 50-year-old family business in Houston that distributes wear parts for heavy construction equipment. He searched for almost four years, the whole time keeping his W2. Two deals died in diligence before this one crossed the finish line.
He joined Bootcamp around the halfway point and described it as the reset he needed. I think that's the part of searching nobody plans for. You budget for the capital and the timeline. You don't budget for rebuilding your conviction after a deal you've spent months on falls apart late.
The searchers I've seen close after a long search tend to have some kind of reset built in. Angel's included a few people from his cohort he still talks to regularly. For others it's a new sourcing channel, a clean look at the buy box, or just a break before getting back after it.
For those of you past the two-year mark, what's been your reset?
