What are the best funding sources (direct investors, platforms, etc.) for independent sponsor deals? Should a relationship be created before raising for a specific deal?

Relationships help, since you're asking them to enter into a multi-year relationship with you as an LP. Many won't fund the first deal you show them; I've heard this outright mentality from multiple investors. You need shots on goal and a large, curated audience. There are a variety of models out there—placement agents, syndicators, investment banks, marketplace platforms—that can help raise LBO capital. Marketplace platforms are a newer development in this space. Exploring them as well. Following along to hear about experiences from others.

Following to see other funding ideas. On the relationship side, I’ve been building what I call a “warm bench” of investors who already know my background, investment focus, and target deal size. That way, when the right opportunity comes up, I can circulate an investment memo and get quick reads on fit and terms instead of starting from zero.
