Our group has now been asked multiple times by sellers to provide a resume that includes work history, college, etc. This request has come after we have held multiple calls with the seller. These made contact with these sellers via cold calls. Has anyone else experienced this request and what do you typically provide?

Yes, absolutely — provide a well-organized bio and additional relevant information upfront. Sellers, especially owner-operators, care deeply about who will be taking over their business. Even if they don’t ask right away, sharing your background early can help build credibility. Include relevant work experience, education, and a brief summary of why you’re the right person to run and grow the business. It doesn’t need to be long — just clear and professional - a one page pdf would be ideal. Overall, our impression is that a proactive approach will have a higher probability of moving conversations forward faster and showing that one is serious.

Yes. We have a one page version of our resumes (we are a two person search team). We also have a short pdf which has a short bio of us and what we are looking for. We send this pdf on our first contact e-mail. Brokers and owners want to know who you are and most owners will be familiar with the resume format and can create a first opinion based on it.
