Has anyone used a fractional exec before? (e.g. fractional CFO, CMO)

Has anyone used a fractional executive before? Did you hire an individual or go through a larger service? And what is a reasonable hourly rate?

I have already acquired and am operating. I am looking for opportunities to both grow the business and free myself up from operational duties. I'm specifically thinking about a fractional CMO for###-###-#### hours / month to advise on and execute a strategy, plus coordinate the activity of several vendors.

I've done both sides. It really depends on what you need and what your budget is. There are companies like Catalant & Continuum who have experts on hand that they can connect you with but again really depends. In general, a personal recommendation is generally the best as there's a history of work product so you know what you're getting. A lot of "experts" over promise and underdeliver. I can share rates privately if helpful.
