Has anyone used an SBA 7(a) loan to acquire a foreign-incorporated business?
I’m exploring the acquisition of a Singapore-incorporated, remote services business. Its delivery team consists of offshore contractors, and I’m considering whether a U.S. entity could purchase the business or its assets using an SBA 7(a) loan.
Has anyone successfully closed a similar acquisition? If so:
- How was the transaction structured, and what portion of the business needed to operate in the U.S.?
- How did your lender verify the seller’s foreign financial statements and tax returns?
- Which lender handled the loan, and when did the transaction close?
I’d appreciate firsthand experience from buyers, lenders or attorneys, especially under current SBA rules. Lender introductions would be welcome too.
