I just came across the Business Reference Guide. It seems pretty reasonable for $27 a month but I wanted to know if anyone else has used it and think it is worth subscribing.

The only reliable rule of thumb is there are no reliable rules-of-thumb to value a business. Buying a business, for most people, is the largest and riskiest financial decision of their life. Get a Price Fairness Opinion before you make an offer to purchase.
“A rule of thumb is a homemade recipe for making a guess. It is an easy to remember guide that falls somewhere between a mathematical formula and a shot in the dark.” Tom Parker, Business Broker. “Critics of rules-of-thumb claim that a rule is simply an average and doesn’t allow for the variables of each individual business.” Tom West, Business Brokerage Press.
“Rules-of-thumb and multipliers don’t work; they disregard profit.” The Complete Guide to Buying and Selling a Business, Arnold Goldstein.
“So-called industry multiples and rules-of-thumb are a poor substitute for a properly performed market price evaluation. They are generally not reliable and oftentimes indicate a value that bears no relationship to the actual market value of the company.” American Business Group, Mid-market Merger & Acquisition Letter.

The subscription that I have is $350/Year and you can see the data for multiples of EBITDA and SDE that businesses have sold for previously that have been financed with SBA loans.
