I am closing on my deal next month and I have to prepare a new system for accounting and then build on it. I have found a software called Odoo that really ticks all of the boxes for what I am trying to achieve. It looks great and the implementation doesn't look too expensive. I wanted to see if any of you is using it or if you considered it ?

^redacted‌ Yes i did, unfortunately for me, i chose the wrong implementer partner which made a total mess out of the accounting. So a year later I am still working on it. After wasting ten of thousands of dollars on a incompetent team, i think I finally found a good company which interestingly enough just got awarded #1 partner of the year. Lesson learned : the implementation partner has to have CPAs on staff not just "CFO" level people. I am still confident with Odoo for the future has it also just closed on a 215M round of funding from summit partners which values Odoo at 2B. They should have plenty of fund to beef up they accounting department for support now. At my lowest satisfaction point, i try to move away from Odoo but it is so good operationally that it makes it difficult to find better for around the same price

The software is opensource - https://github.com/odoo/odoo

Are you going the self hosted route or the online hosted option through them?

What are you looking to do when you 'build on the system'? EG add custom features / views ?

We have helped clients customize their installations but there are some drawbacks to the system. Once customized the pace at which you can update the system is dependent on how you modified the core code.
