I am curious about home health care businesses, among other things it has a "giving back" component in it.

It seems there is plenty of growth potential but this space is crowded by franchises. Interested in finding some data around # of franchises and non-franchise entities in-home health care how are they performing at a high level or any pointers would be helpful.

I am also curious if anyone has looked at a franchise resale and what were some of the lessons learned.

Hi Amby, I’ve been in the home health care industry for 11 years. I agree with Anchit’s comments about franchises and I would add that your exit options are limited as well. But that is only a small part of the industry. Depending on what kind of business you want to run and what kind of problems you like to solve there may be more attractive options. I would be happy to chat sometime. I’m just thinking of launching my search and would appreciate making a connection with someone who recently took the plunge.

Be mindful of talking about home health vs home care. terminology sometimes varies, but one is providing medical care vs. the other is non medical care. so the labor force, reimbursements, and target market varies. a lot of businesses go into both areas since there is also significant overlap. Generally, medical care involves more regulatory oversight, margins tend to be lower, and workforce is harder to find. But the revenue is more predictable and the competitive moat is deeper.
