Some thoughts, not so much of an answer:

My clients that have been able to implement something that looks like AI, are doing so in very low risk areas of their business. Additionally, it is heavily monitored with human oversight. The biggest roadblock is enough clean data. I suspect like most technology AI will follow the typical hype-cycle. However, I anticipate the trough of disillusionment to be greatly shortened than is typical.

I have personally leveraged CGPT to help me write code since I am a home automation enthusiast. It got me about 80% of the way complete, and I was able to carry it across the finish line with more traditional methods of googling and message boards. However, this experience alone was incredible as I was able to ask questions and have it teach me. Great experience. Developers I know are using it in a very similar fashion and have reported a similar experience.

Hyped technology often results in firms selling a frothy idea rather than actually delivering the core technology. Very interested to hear other's experiences.

New searcher here. I've worked implementing AI/data science in large companies for the past 10 years (currently the VP of Data Science at a public EdTech company leading a department doing this work). Given how difficult this is to do at large companies with significant financial resources, I'd be fairly surprised if SMEs are investing in leveraging in AI. If you're running an SME and are trying to be sold on solutions by vendors, I'd definitely be very weary. Happy to chat with anyone if they'd like to speak more about it for their businesses.
