How do searchers handle payroll?

Do folks receive gross payment checks from the bank account and handle taxes themselves, use an outsourced provider to do witholdings etc, or something else?

Planning to do a search with a single backer and interested in best practices.

Once you complete an acquisition, I do recommend a PEO. There is an associated cost, but you get much better rates on the benefits., This is all the more relevant if you have people in multiple states.
