Currently working FT and trying to save up before taking the full blown SF leap, I am curious if folks have used websites like Flippa and Microacquire as a first step into ownership before going all in on searching.

Learned about searchfunds in school, currently working in M&A so I am only able to carve out a half/full day to really digging into searching and like to imagine (fantasize?) that a small website can give me a taste of ownership to better inform my full time search in the next###-###-#### years.

Any thoughts?

A few months ago someone introduced MicroAcquire to me as "Failed Micro Startup Marketplace." True to his words most businesses listed there are either <3 years old SaaS in a new niche with low revenue and no profitability or older businesses that could not grow and might not sustain without an exit. Some of these might be a good add-on to an existing business, and that's where they get a good valuation. Flippa is usually a risky site where anyone can list anything for small fees and usually, most of those businesses have either fake numbers or hard to verify. There are a few that might be perfect to build your skills, but don't expect much material value out of those.

I just signed up for microacquire premium to look at a few deals. After watching their emails for a couple months it seemed like they had at least one a week that was interesting. The behind the scenes has been relatively nice so far. Some stuff has been kind of silly, like a 35 page pdf slide show with a single question/answer per slide that mostly duplicates what's already in the profile.
