In defense of franchising
I bought a QSR franchise earlier this year just outside of Niagara, and I'm now searching for my second, near Buffalo. Every time franchises come up on here, the take is the same: you give up pricing power, you cap your exit multiple, etc. It's a bit more nuanced than that but generally all true. That said, I'd still do it again. I think that for a first-time self-funded operator, the constraints of a franchise are genuinely helpful. I didn't have to reinvent the wheel and simply inherited a playbook that works. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but I do think more people should consider it as a viable alternative to buying a business they may not be well-suited to run. Curious how other franchisees feel about this and whether any searchers are considering franchises
