Seeking some ideas on how interns can be most helpful during a due diligence process. What has your experience been? And how to juggle keeping the pipeline going whilst also being focused on the success of the active deal. Thoughts?

It depends heavily on the level of experience and time commitment of the intern. College interns are going to be fairly limited, MBA interns can bring a lot more to the table. Data entry (pulling info from PDFs into Excel or however you're crunching data), running competitive analysis (doing the legwork of finding and collating competitors and information about them), and lead generation (finding targets, but not doing the actual outreach - you don't want sellers on the phone with an intern) are good ways to leverage intern time. Keeping your M&A pipeline going while pursuing active deals is challenging, no doubt. Unfortunately that's tough to unstick with interns since you can't have them touching the really sensitive and time consuming parts of that, which is the relationship management with sellers and prospective sellers. If you're struggling to keep both moving then you might need to consider adding a temporary or permanent paid position to your team who you can properly train to interact with sellers.

Definitely agree with Bill - the key part of an intern role will be managing the client base and analysing financial reports to keep the deal flow going!
