I'll take the opposite view. Sure, if you are focused on large metropolitans, you will run into this. I sit in a small town of 60,000 people or so. I assure you the plumbers here have NO idea what private equity is and that there is a roll up in the industry. If you are willing to roll up smaller outposts, you can still make a larger company and then sell it to PE when you are done. It's not like the industry is consolidated (highly fragmented still).
