Knowing what you know today, would you recommend ETA to someone else?
After 17 years in transportation and logistics, I became increasingly concerned about the industry's long-term direction as it became more commoditized and disrupted. That ultimately led me to complete a self-funded search and acquire Tommy Pollina Landscape in early 2024. Like many searchers, I was looking for a business with the characteristics we're all taught to prioritize: recurring revenue, durable demand, fragmented markets, strong local positioning, operational complexity, and long-term defensibility. After operating the business, I realized something I never expected. The company's greatest asset wasn't the trucks, equipment, employees, customer base, or even its financial performance. It was nearly fifty years of accumulated institutional knowledge. That realization fundamentally changed how I think about business ownership and led us down a path I never anticipated when I started searching. Over the last 2½ years, we've worked to capture that knowledge into a scalable platform. Our website recently went live, and for the first time I've shared the story behind that journey. redacted Knowing what you know today, would you still recommend ETA to someone else? Has your answer changed since you started searching? Would you encourage someone to pursue a traditional search, or do you think there are other paths to business ownership that deserve just as much consideration? I'd genuinely love to hear how your perspective has evolved.
