Life After the Deal: Inside the First Year of Owning a Business
·
Indianapolis, IN, USA
Most of the attention in an acquisition goes to getting the deal done. This panel is about the year after it closes.
Andrew Wahl, Gabrielle Rubenstein, and Max Wahl acquired Ace-Pak Products, a 40-year-old Indianapolis packaging and janitorial distributor, and spent the first year learning what the CIM did not cover. The books that lived in a stack of notebooks. Working capital that was not where the model assumed. A business that ran on one person's memory. Two years in, they can walk through what they found and how they worked through it.
This is not a session on sourcing or structuring a deal. It is a direct look at the operating reality of year one.
What we'll cover
Day one. What you inherit and what surprises you.
The first 90 days. Getting real visibility on the numbers, moving off notebooks and dead software, and deciding what to fix first.
Year one and onward. The operations and digital overhaul, getting the right people in the right seats, and finding the next bottleneck before it costs you.
What's next. Where the business is now, and why they are already looking at the next acquisition.
Three seats at the same company: a broker and dealmaker who sources and closes transactions for a living, a finance and operations lead who underwrites roughly $800M in real estate development in her day job, and the managing partner running the business day to day.
Who it's for
Searchers and self-funded acquirers at any stage, from still raising to already operating. Independent sponsors, ETA investors, SBA lenders, and advisors. And owner-operators already running acquired businesses.
