I am new here. I recently kicked off my search and I'm looking to connect with more people in the search fund community in Canada. Before making the exciting transition, my most recent experience is the last five years in infrastructure private equity, with two Canadian pension fund investment managers.

I'm only a few weeks in and I've come across amazing people and opportunities, but I look forward to hearing about your experiences and advice!

Thank you, Laolu

In the next work week or so one of my Canadian clients will begin his search for a lower middle market business to buy. We’re going to begin by contacting all the business brokers; it’s a good way to access the low hanging fruit. Keep in mind that brokers are motivated to make sales; the best brokers will help facilitate a deal. But, don’t sit on the sidelines waiting for brokers to share opportunities with you. After your initial survey of brokers, if you don’t find a business to buy, immediately begin interacting with owners of the kinds of businesses you want to buy. If you want to expedite your search, simultaneously look for the off-market opportunities and business broker listings. (Doing these things correctly will expedite your dealmaking and minimize your competition with other buyers.)
