Happy New Year! I’m currently in the process of finding the right accountant and lawyer to support a self-funded search in Canada, targeting businesses in the $250k–$1M EBITDA range, in BC and Alberta. For those who have gone through this before: - What questions have you found most helpful when evaluating a new accountant or lawyer? - Are there specific capabilities, deal experience, or red flags you’d recommend looking for at this stage? Any advice or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, if you are, or know of, professionals with experience in transactions in this range, an introduction would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance, and wishing everyone a great start to the year!

Rafael, I work with searchers in this space and I'm based out of Alberta currently. A lawyer I know that I've worked with in the past is http://www.outsiders.law. Feel free to send me a DM or email at redacted and happy to chat through any questions you may have.

Hey Rafael, good to see more faces out west (we are based in Calgary)! On the lawyer selection, we put together a cheat sheet for key questions that a seller should ask their counsel before engaging them for M&A representation. We have found sellers can default to a long-time lawyer friend a wills & estates lawyer etc which will be nothing but heartache for you (and them...). I'm sure the list could be helpful as you evaluate your legal counsel (we engaged 4 M&A firms and had them fill out a pretty standard set of RFI questions in ). Shoot me a note at redacted and I can share the PDF with you.
