Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking into a franchise opportunity with Floor Covering International and researching how I might build up the B2B side—particularly in “main street commercial” projects. I’d love to connect with anyone who’s navigated this space or has insights on bringing in new contractors and networking for smaller commercial jobs. I’m up in New York and this is purely exploratory right now, so any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to learning from your experiences!

Scott

I have had several residential and commercial flooring company over the years and there are a few ways to get there. If you get close to an LOI, let me know and I may be able to help you navigate some land mines.

Scott, my first thought here is that commercial construction is extremely relationship based. You would be selling into general contractors or construction managers for new construction. There may be a play on the owner (retailer) side for any reflooring or maintenance needs. Given that you are in New York, any large job would probably go Union but the smaller retail or office jobs could be done by non-union. The Floor Coverings website is very residential focused; therefore you will likely succeed on word-of-mouth and networking rather than any cold calling or marketing campaigns. There is plenty more to be mindful of here depending on the direction you are trying to take this.

Happy to chat more if you have questions. Best of Luck
