I write a monthly newsletter on Search, ETA, SMB, & more. I thought I'd share an excerpt of the May edition I sent yesterday below - sign-up at bit.ly/etamusings if want to get on the list (and I'll resend the full May edition later this week for new adds)
---
May was a pretty active month for us and in the search community.
Personally, it was nice to meet some searchers in-person for the first time in a long time and gearing up for some travel this summer.
Content & Community -
Traditional Search Model in Excel: Alex finalized a full financial model template in Excel for traditional searchers as well as a simplified traditional search “one-pager” for quick looks at deals (and training). We recently sent it out to searchers who requested it in last month's newsletter - if you didn't receive it or want a copy, just send us a note.
Veteran Search Conference: Alex has been on the planning committed as a co-host & panelist for the free two-hour Veterans ETA 2021 conference being held June 3rd.
We'll be holding a follow-up "FAQ session" for potential searchers on June 8th from 1:00 - 2:30pm EDT (RSVP here). Please pass both along to any veterans you may know who are interested in learning more about search.
Mid-Atlantic Meetup: Live in the Mid-Atlantic region? Inspired by great groups in other cities, we put together a group "Mid-Atlantic ETA" to begin to host gatherings to connect the community in the area.
Check out the group here - first event is June 23rd in DC - please RSVP here. Got ideas or want to help out? Please reach out.
Podcast: Steve's episode "How to Invest in Search" went live on the Think Like an Owner podcast. Alex Bridgeman is a great interviewer and it's been fun hearing from many listeners (many also on this newsletter).
Case Study: Serial entrepreneur and Yale ETA professor A.J. Wasserstein recently completed a new case entitled "On the Nature of Customer Retention and Revenue Analysis" - Steve was excited to be interviewed in Exhibit 4 of the paper on "the investor perspective."
Searcher Opportunities- As we connect with the community, a number of opportunities come up that we'll share in this section
Social Media: Breaking news – after 20 years of eschewing social media, Alex is now live on Twitter and had a great thread on customer concentration. Give him a follow. He promises no puppies, no politics and no grilling photos – just ETA and SMB acquisition info.
Hiring - COO: Our friends at SureSwift Capital (who focus on buying bootstrapped SaaS companies) are looking to hire a COO. Great unique opportunity - check it out.
