I’m exploring the possibility of working with an MBA candidate concentrating in finance and accounting who is interested in gaining hands-on experience supporting a Main Street business acquisition search. This would be an unpaid, university-approved internship completed for academic credit and structured around the student’s educational requirements, faculty oversight, and defined learning objectives. The candidate’s university should already have an applicable internship or experiential-learning program in place, or a professor or faculty adviser willing to help establish and supervise an appropriate program. Potential areas of involvement include: -Public-source industry research and market mapping -Preliminary opportunity screening using anonymized or publicly available information and defined criteria -Review of redacted or summarized acquisition materials, only where permitted by applicable confidentiality agreements -Educational valuation and acquisition-structure analysis using anonymized, hypothetical, or expressly authorized financial information -Public-source company and industry research, along with preparation of general diligence questions for broker and seller discussions -Public-source competitive and geographic market analysis -Preliminary post-acquisition planning using hypothetical, anonymized, or expressly authorized operating information The intern would not solicit investors, contact sellers or brokers on my behalf, negotiate transaction terms, participate in confidential calls without prior authorization, provide investment recommendations, communicate offering information, or independently make acquisition decisions. My current focus is on profitable, management-led service businesses, primarily in the Pacific Northwest. Is anyone in the Searchfunder community currently enrolled in an MBA program—or connected with a qualified candidate—who may be interested? Please send me a direct message.
