Merger to create a larger platform play

Has anyone considered, or done a deal where they merged with another business (not sold out) to create a larger Holdco? I run a dumpster rental franchise business and recently bought out neighboring business operators to be the sole operator in my region. Have some close business associates in related businesses (restoration/construction equipment/porta rentals) and we have been throwing around the idea of a merger, where both stakeholders would continue as partners in a larger Holdco. The benefit is scale, and a larger play for potential PE investors
