It is common enough that when I've put in a new CFO into a company, it is one of the things they look for. Although never had it specifically called out as a line item on the income statement.

Actually...this may sound crazy...but it might be a red flag if this does not appear...how craftily did they hide this stuff in the books if you cannot find something like this? Every small company has something akin to this. A more innocuous example (historical fiction) would be an owner that paid for a nephew's educational expenses but the wife hated the mother of the nephew...it had to be hidden...?!?!?
